Time Flies and Then Some

Wow, where do I begin?  Things have been crazy around here, crazy good and crazy bad, depending on your point of view, but this is where we are now.  I haven’t written since, Wow, August?!, boy does time fly.  I’ll try to catch you up and I’ll try to make it short. 🙂

Well, I guess the first thing is the store makeover.  Both inside and outside of the store have been completely repainted.  Outside we went from this.

I’ve gotta say I LOVE it and I have received a ton of compliments!!  Then the inside when from yellow

It was a lot of work but well worth the effort, I think 🙂

In October, Brian and I finally had a vacation!  We flew to New Brunswick to visit with my Dad.  The last time we had been there, or anywhere for that matter, was 8 1/2 years before when we went out there when Dad got married.  It’s not that we don’t want to vacation or anything like that, my Mom and Stepdad are always asking us to come and visit with them in either Calgary or Florida, but life just seems to get in the way.

As it turns out, we discovered that we like to vacation and we like the Video Lottery Terminals that they have just about anywhere you go out there 🙂  We managed to win a few bucks from the machines at the local legion 🙂

Well, we made it home safe and sound and got back into the routine of daily life.  Brian back to his nursing and me back to shop keeping.  We both love what we do, but it’s good to get away.

So now here’s the crazy bit.  I come home and not one, but two of my friends who have (had) stores in town have decided to close.  (I’ve shortened the time line a bit to try and keep things brief) One has moved to be closer to her daughters and the other is taking her life back and doing the things she wants like going to visit her family in England over Christmas.  I think she said she’s going for a month.  Ya just can’t do that and run a store at the same time!

Both asked me if I’d be interested in taking some of their products into my store.  I said sure as it works out well for everyone.  They aren’t stuck with a house full of inventory, I get some great new products to offer and their existing customers can still find what they are looking for in the same town!

So now in my 230 square foot store you can find everything from Tea to Trinkets, Waterford Crystal to Western Wear, Soap to Steampunk Fairies and yes even Unicorns and Dragons!!DSCN3428

And finally, I have got my famous Christmas Tree up (side down)

So for now thats about it, I guess.  Over the next few days I’ll be taking pictures of all the fabulous new stuff and uploading them here so you can check em out and maybe find the perfect Christmas gift for that special someone.

Meet our Happy Customers

Today has been a good day in the store and folks are getting in the Christmas spirit.  With that in mind I thought what the heck, lets see if anyone would be interested in saying a few words on video.  Well to my surprise, some folks are just too happy to do it.  I’d like you to meet Krista and Winnie.  These are just a couple of short clips of our happy customers 🙂

If you’ve purchased something from me that you’d like to show off to the world, or at least my little corner of it, I’d love to add a video of your great find!  If you’d just like to write a few words that would be fantastic too 🙂

Merry Christmas everyone 🙂

How The Grinch Stole Christmas

At Christmas time there is one Christmas cartoon that will stop me in my tracks.  No matter what I’m doing, once the Grinch is on TV, everything stops and I sit down to watch, all the while reciting it word for word.  It’s my absolute most favorite Christmas cartoon EVER.  My wonderful husband bought me the book, video and CD so that I can read, watch or listen to it whenever the mood hits, but on TV with commercials at Christmas time is the only proper way to watch it for me.

Here at the store you will hear The Grinch played through my speakers that are just outside the door occasionally changed up with traditional Christmas music and the TSO.  As a matter of fact as I’m sitting here typing it’s playing right now 🙂

If you watch Glee then you have seen their version of The Grinch with Sue being “Sue The Grinch” and she did such a good job.  I quite enjoyed it.  I have also seen the live action version with Jim Carrey.  It was ok, but I won’t watch it again.  It just didn’t do it for me.

So If you haven’t gotten your Grinch fix, I found this on YouTube.  Enjoy.

As for Christmas movies, my favorite is Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, but ONLY the 1951 black and white Alastair Sim as Scrooge version.

As for my husband, his favorite is A Christmas Story, with poor little Ralphie wanting the Red Rider BB Gun and dads “major award” the famous Leg Lamp.

Well, that’s my Christmas must watch list.  Short but sweet.  What are your favorite TV and movie selections?  Go ahead, share 🙂

Merry Christmas,

Every year my husband Brian has made it an Anniversary/Christmas Tradition that we go and see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.  He books a white stretch limousine and off we go.  This year the show is being held in Toronto at the ACC on December 23rd.  As a result the store will be CLOSED at 11:30 on Dec. 23rd.  I will be open as usual at 10 am Dec 24 closing Christmas Eve at 4pm.

If you haven’t seen or heard the TSO do yourself a favor and check out these youtube videos  or even better, go see them live.  You won’t be sorry.  Like I said my husband and I go every year and it never gets old.

Merry Christmas everyone.
