Wow, where has the time gone, I looked at my last post and it was way back on December 30th, when my husband took me to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Well, even though I haven’t been posting, I have been busy, well, sort of 🙂 So let’s see what has kept me from blogging.
Brian, my husband, and I had absolutely no plans for New Years Eve, which turned out to be a fantastic way to spend the end of the year! While chatting on Facebook with our friend Jeff, we decided, what the heck, lets make the 2 hour journey to Hamilton and see Eclectic Revival at the Rebels Rock Pub. What a GREAT NIGHT!!! We met up with some old renaissance festival friends and made some new friends. If you ever get the chance to see Eclectic Revival, DO IT, you won’t be disappointed! Here’s a sample:
And of course I’ve got to give a shout out to the Rebel’s Rock Irish Pub. Great food, I’m not a beer drinker but for those who do they have over 15 different beers all on tap, no bottled beer. The one my husband enjoyed that night was Hobgoblin English Ale 🙂 and a wonderful atmosphere filled with great people! We will definitely make the trip again! Good times, good times 🙂 Oh and by the way, since the didn’t have pineapple juice I created my own cocktail. I call it the Scarlet Monkey Butt 🙂 Cranberry Juice, Coconut Rum and a splash of Banana Liqueur. Give it a try 🙂
In January I took 2 1/2 weeks off from the store. I do this every year because, lets face it, after the Christmas rush, and being open 7 days/week, I get just plane tired. I call this time my R&R&R time. Rest, Relaxation and Restocking.
During my “staycation” my Mom, Joan, flew in from Florida for a visit and to see our home for the first time. Jeff, our buddy, ever faithful companion and designated driver, took us to pick her up from the airport. We took a little side trip to visit with our friend Garth and his Mom Lillian at the Town Crier Pub in Toronto. It’s a great place with tasty German food and over 50 different beers, for those who enjoy a good beer, since I don’t, I enjoyed a couple Scarlet Monkey Butts 🙂 After a few drinks and a nosh, we headed home to Mount Forest. It’s been years since I’ve seen my Mom and we had a really good visit, spent some quality time together and I celebrated another birthday on Friday the 13th!
While Mom was with me I showed her how I make olive oil cold process soap. There will be 2 batches of soap that should be ready for sale mid to late February. One is Lavender and the other is Citrus Calendula with more on the way.
We also made some leather roses. She helped me out by cutting out all the petals for me while I sculpted them. It helped save a lot of time. Here’s a pic of the roses.
You can see some of the individual roses for sale on my Forever Leather Roses page.
Robbie Burns day came around and Brian and I celebrated it at the Mount Forest Legion with a little whiskey for me, beer for Brian and, of course, Haggis and Scotch Eggs. Yes, we do like haggis, and no, we really don’t drink that much!!
Ok so I admit, I didn’t get that much “restocking” done, but I sure enjoyed the “rest and relaxation” part of my R&R&R 🙂
With my staycation over, I returned to open the store bright and early on January 24th. It’s back to business as usual, and I must say that the fantastic weather we have had has giving the start of the year a bit of a boost!
Next on my list of things to do was getting ready for the Weskate, the Skate Canada Figure Skating Competition. Oh goodness no, I’m no figure skater, but I do sponsor the event by donating the judges gifts. This year I made some of my Paris-phernalia Gift Bags with vintage skating images on them, filled with a bar of my handmade Goat’s Milk Soap and Bath Salts, Vanilla scented. The competition is this weekend, Feb 4 & 5 at the Mount Forest Sports Complex.
Last night our buddy Jeff decided it was time that our little group of friends get together and have a night out! Brian, myself and our friend Leah piled into Jeff’s car and headed to Guelph where we picked up another friend Dave and headed to Squirrel Tooth Alice’s to meet our other friend Anne, for an evening of Karaoke!! As usual a good night was had by all in and establishment that we quite enjoyed!
Tomorrow is the Super Bowl Game! I do enjoy watching football as long as Brian tells me what colour team we are cheering for. We will be heading to our one and only pub left in Mount Forest, Al Jerky’s. I’d have put a link to it, but there isn’t one 😦 Anyway, we will be cheering, eating, drinking, playing a bit of texas hold em and all round having a great time.
So, now you know what I’ve been up to 🙂 I must reiterate, especially after re-reading this post, that Brian and I really do NOT drink that much!!! It kinda sounds like we do, but really, honestly, truly, we don’t!
Until next time,
