Screen Savers

We all know that screen doors keep the bugs out but let the fresh air and

cooling breeze in, but they don’t work so well when they are knocked off of their hinges.  Yep, we’ve all been there at some point, you have a get together and someone at some point manages to walk right through the screen door!  Granted, it is kinda hard to tell when the door is open and when it’s closed, especially if you are a little bleary eyed from sleep deprivation, yea that’s it, you’re just a little tired.

So I ask you, how is it that a butterfly can be more powerful that Aunt Pattie with that one too many extra large glass of red, or a dragonfly more dominant than Uncle Doug hoisting his stein?

Well I’ll tell ya, when its a SCREEN SAVER!

Dragonfly Screen Saver

Butterfly Screen Saver

Each Dragonfly or Butterfly Screen Saver is handcrafted by little ol’ me using either hand hammered copper or brass wire and beads.  Just thread the tail through the screen on the door and walla your screen door is now safe from all intruders big or small!  Yep, they even work on Munchkins when they are excitedly running out the door to play in the sprinkler or running back in to get a popsicle.  Just remember to place on a little lower as their eyes are closer to the ground ;)

Even though they are all the same, every one is different and come carded on a piece of screen.  (clever huh :) )  They sell for $7.99 each or 2/ $15.00

They sell quickly so if you’d like to order one or two, it’s probably easier to tell me which one you want, and your choice of bead/wire colour and I’ll make them up for you.

I made a batch of them the other day and these are the ones that are left as I write this.  Click the pictures for a larger view.

I ♥ Mom

I’ve got 2 reasons for posting today.  One is because Mother’s Day is quickly approaching and the second is because I’ve discovered picnik!  I’ve been playing with picnik to show off some other ideas I have for great Mother’s Day gifts.

The title of this blog post is I ♥ Mom so here’s my first pic.

I ♥ Mom

I thought it would be very appropriate to feature some Semi Precious Stone Heart Shaped pendants.  Shown from left to right are Howlite, Pink Quartz & Hematite.  $29.99 each

Here’s a little collage I put together of some other gift ideas that I thought would be great coming from the kids.

Top Left :  Angel Beaded Earrings.  How cute would this be, a gift from Mom’s little Angel :) $12.00/pr

Top Right:  I just love Agate and Geode Slices.  These can be wired and hung in the window or placed on a window sill.  The perfect way to say “You Light Up My Life Mom” :)  Assorted sizes, prices range from just $4.99 to $7.99.  Perfect for even the smallest of pocket books.

Bottom Left:  Cuff Watch with Charm Bracelet.  Available in assorted colours with different saying for each charm such as Wish (shown), Grace, Love and Success.  Tell Mom you cherish your time with her.  $34.99 each

Bottom Right:  Amethyst Chunk Earrings.  Amethyst has many different meanings and uses, but to me these simply say “Mom, you are my Rock!”  $20.00/pr.

The store is filled with lots of other great gift ideas for Mother’s Day so drop by, give us a call or shoot us an email if you’d like more info on these or any other items on our blog.

We are located at 157 Main St. N. Mount Forest

See ya soon :)

Beautiful Hand Beaded Birds

I’m so excited!!  I had a new artisan contact me about her hand beaded birds.  I told her I’d love to see pictures of them.  She sent pictures via email to me and although they were a little blurry I fell in love with them and just had to have them for the store!!  Well, the birds appeared in person, along with their maker, Joanne Raymond, and the birds are even more gorgeous in person!!!   Here are some pictures!! Enjoy

Hummingbird $19.99

Green Parrot $19.99

Cardinal $19.99

Blue Jay $19.99

Hummingbird $19.99

These would be equally beautiful whether hanging in a window or as a Christmas tree decoration.  Each 3D bird is hand beaded by Joanne using a multitude of seed beads, bugle beads, pearl beads etc. and takes a minimum of 5 hours per bird.

The hummingbirds (Designed by Dragon) measure approximately 4.1/2″ high by 2 1/2″ wide.  The others are approximately 4 3/4″ high by 2 1/4″ wide.

Jo was laughing when she told me that these birds have been “cat tested”.  She came home one day to find one of her birds on the floor after having been mauled by at least one of her 6 cats and the bird had survived without injury.  The bead thread she uses has a very high tensile strength that the cats couldn’t chew through.  If by some chance the hanging thread is cut (I don’t know why you’d want to do that, but if you do) the worst that will happen is you would lose the top 3 or 4 beads that are at the tips of the wings.  The rest of the bird will stay firmly together.

Jo is planning on extending this line of beadwork to include flowers and butterflys… I can’t wait to see the results!!

I think I’ve picked out one or two that are going home with me, but I’ll resist the rest so that I have something to sell.
